Getting Your Real Estate Life Together: Q&A with Dana Flanagan

Name, Location and how long have you been an Agent

Dana Flanagan, East Hampton, CT - 20 years

How would you describe your brand?

Customer service based with an upbeat & energetic attitude.

How do you differentiate yourself?

I provide top-notch service and extensive marketing while still maintaining that personalized service to my clients. When you are a Top Producer in Real Estate you need leverage and to delegate some things to your team. There is a fine line with that. I never wanted to remove myself from the reason I connect with people- just being me & building those relationships. I have found it's very important to maintain relationships with your clients and not lose the personal approach. I enjoy the personal touch & I've always felt it's important to not lose sight of why I got to be where I am in the first place. I love what I do and it shows and my clients see that. Being authentic goes a long way.

What marketing method is most effective for you and why?

I have an extensive marketing plan & I invest in a broad range of marketing. Last year I hired a Director of Marketing for my team and she keeps all my marketing organized and on schedule. I provide all the personal touches to my marketing. For me it all goes back to relationships and the connections made through those relationships. Connecting with people on a personal level always seems to be the backbone of my success. I'm not afraid to stand out and take risks.

What marketing method is least effective for you and why?

I think newspaper advertising has run it's course. I still do it because I do get some direct business from it and my sellers love to see their homes marketed in so many different ways & this is something that they enjoy so it's worth it to me.
What are your three favorite ways to start a conversation?*
I love to find a common interest with someone- that always makes for a fun conversation. I love to ask questions- that always gets people talking. Paying a genuine compliment always works well too.

How are you elevating the look and feel of your business?

I have always been consistent with my branding & the overall look of our team. Professional, classy, polished, and positive. My team has been together for many years and we love working together. It's easy when you share the same vision.

What's one piece of advice you would give a new agent?

Be consistent and persistent. Have a clear vision of what you want out of your career and be intentional with everything you do. You control your destiny- it is completely self-propelled. In the end, it doesn't matter what company you work for, or what they promise you. You are responsible for your own success.
