Getting Your Real Estate Life Together: Q&A with Thomas Shapiro

Name, Location and how long have you been an Agent

Thomas Shapiro, Portland, OR, 3 years

How would you describe your brand?

Kinda bubbly and funny but packaged in an east coast directness. I prioritize honesty and ethics with an emphasis on collaboration.

How do you differentiate yourself?

I come from a fine arts background so I tend to work in a very right-brained manner. I do lots of education, and during a normal market, I host classes on different topics almost every month. I also do a lot of video content about real estate and the PNW.

What marketing method is most effective for you and why?

I tend to gravitate a lot towards social media and presenting what I feel to be an authentic version of myself. If it feels natural, I lean into it.

What marketing method is least effective for you and why?

Anything salesy or slimy is usually not a good match for me. I like organic interactions and tend to make friends with most of my clients.

What are your three favorite ways to start a conversation?

Being a typical millennial, I do most of my communication via text but I guess I don't give too much thought to the "how" of it. I just shoot from the hip and see what people say. My favorite adage came from one of the OGs, Dr. Seuss, "those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind". I really live by those words.

How are you elevating the look and feel of your business?

We've been working hard on building a brand around our team "Piece of PDX" and thinking a lot about making our marketing very intentional to how we want to be seen by the public.

What's one piece of advice you would give a new agent?

Find a mentor or business partner who can help challenge you and keep you accountable.
